Beauty Haul -NYX Finishing Powder

I used to never use finishing powder, I didn’t understand the purpose and it felt like an extra step when I tried. I used a few finishing powders in the past, like MAC Prep + Prime Finishing Powder and Maybelline Master Fix Setting & Perfecting PowderI felt like they didn’t do anything other than cover my bathroom counter tops in powder. My skin is really dry, so it could be that the powder was too loose for my needs.

I love to watch YouTube makeup tutorials to see what is out there and get out of a makeup rut. Every single one I said that a finishing powder is needed to set your make up and give you a glow. I did some research on Ulta’s website to see what is out there and what people are saying about each product. I came across NYX HD Finishing Powderwith 4.5 stars, over 300 reviews and a price point of less than $10 I knew this product was the one for me.

NYX Finishing Powder

I purchased the NYX HD Finishing Powder in Banana to help brighten my skin and reduce redness. My skin tends to hold some red around my nose, which I like to eliminate. It’s a mineral base so it goes on super smooth, doesn’t settle into creases (who really wants that!?!?) and provides an airbrushed look. Some mornings I wake up with dark circles under my eyes and it does a really good job of brightening me up.

Thanks for stopping by!

Houston Eats – KA Sushi

New York Roots to Southern Boots

Some Friday nights are for date night, other Friday nights call for a girls’s night and a girl’s night was LONG over due. On Friday night, I met up with the girls are KA Sushi in the Heights area of Houston.

Going into dinner I thought I was going to have sushi, but then I saw lobster ramen on the menu. It was an absolute game changer. For starters, the broth was super rich with a buttery base and the noodles were perfectly cooked. The best part was, it came with a HUGE lobster claw and another claw. The waitress said that I had the biggest lobster claw that she has ever seen. As I was eating my ramen, I texted Brandon to tell him we are going to have to come back for that dish alone.

We each got something different and stepped out of our comfort zone a little bit. You can see all of the food below.New York Roots to Southern Boots

You know you aren’t ready for girl’s night to end when you decide to have dessert and another drink at a different restaurant. #treatyoself #caloriesdontcountatgirlsnight

We walked down the street to Hunky Dory, which has a contemporary British feel to it. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with an undertone of casual elegance. I ordered the Suffragette City, which contained Earl Grey infused vodka and tasted like summer time. For dessert we split the, dark chocolate terrine and sticky toffee pudding which was my favorite.

It was such a fun girl’s night and I can’t wait until the next one. Where are some of your favorite places to go in Houston?

Check back on Wednesday for the next Beauty Haul!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter with family and friends!

Friday Five

Happy Friday y’all!

It has been a while since I’ve done a Friday Five and decided it’s time for it to make a comeback!

Friday’s call for a lot of bling, so I busted out my Stella & Dot Sutton necklace.

On Wednesday I shared two new beauty favorites, you can read about it here.

I’m reminiscing about a beautiful Saturday spent at the Wine Garden during the Houston Rodeo.

I received a spa gift certificate for Christmas that I’m using today for an anti-aging facial to keep this 31 year old skin full of youth. I can’t wait to share my spa experience with you next week.

I hope y’all have a wonderful Easter Weekend. As always, thank you for stopping by!

Introducing – Beauty Haul

New York Roots to Southern Boots

Hey Y’all!

Since New York Roots to Southern Boots recently turned ONE, it’s time to start a weekly series that can help any girl looking for some beauty tips. Each week I’m going to talk about beauty buys that I either love or hate to help you feel like your most beautiful self, because honestly, that’s what we are all striving for. I’m going to preface that I am not a makeup artist, but I do LOVE to find beauty finds at SephoraUlta, or major department store like Nordstrom.

I came up with the idea to share this with you because 1. I LOVE makeup, 2. I love trying out new products, 3. my girlfriends ask me my thoughts on certain items because they know I’m a makeup hoarder, and 4. I want to help as many woman as possible feel beautiful and feel confident in their own skin.

New York Roots to Southern Boots

One of my new favorites is IT! Cosmetics CC+For starters, I love that it is SPF 50, so you can prevent sun damage while looking beautiful and it is filled with anti-aging hydrating serum. It is a full coverage, but it doesn’t LOOK or feel full coverage. It makes your skin just look better it one simple step. I wore it all week on my cruise to Cozumel, Belize and Roatan; my face didn’t get burnt at all. During the day I would just wear the CC+, but for dinner I would be a little concealer under my eyes to brighten.

My second favorite is Sephora Radiant Luminizing Drops and since it’s only $14 it won’t break the bank. I bought it in the Morning Light shade, which looks like champagne. At first, I was only applying it in the area below my eyes and above the apple of my cheeks. Now I apply 1 drop (a little goes a long way!) all over my cheeks, down the bridge of my nose and in the area between my eyebrows; after I apply my primer. I was afraid it would be too aggressive, but it really just gives a nice glow.

I really hope y’all enjoy this as much as I am when I write it. Be sure to check back next Wednesday for the next BEAUTY HAUL!

The Bachelor – Episode 10 Recap

Hey y’all!

This week on The Bachelor it was the “Women Tell All” (WTA) special. It gives the girls who got kicked to the curb an opportunity to defend their actions (I’m looking at you, Leah), gain some closure with Ben, and get a possible invite to the Bachelor in Paradise.

I don’t this week needs a full recap, but I’ll share some of the highlights with you.

She was promoted to Sergeant in the Army Reserves (Congrats!) and was able to gain closure with how things ended with Ben. You can read about that hereBy the way, she looked GORGEOUS!

When the announced her, she got booed. Normally, I would feel bad but she did not handle herself well in the Bahamas. When Chris Harrison asked her about it, she didn’t take an ounce of accountability for her actions and attempted to deflect it onto Ben.

I was expecting her crazy to come out, but after she was left in the Bahamas she took the time to complete a lot of self-reflection. She even apologized to Amanda about the Teen Mom comment.

She owned up to how she acted on the Bachelor and said that she has learned a lot about herself. She also claims she has removed the term “crazy” from her vocabulary. Chris Harrison invited her to Bachelor in Paradise. The most awkward moment of the WTA was when an a guy in the audience joined Lace and Chris Harrison on the stage to show Lace his new tattoo, which was of HER FACE! #awkotaco

All in all, it was a good special but it didn’t bring the drama like it normally does.

I can’t wait to see who gets the final rose.
